Sgt. Bruns entered service May 2, 1941, and had 41 months' overseas duty with the Fifth army. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, five bronze battle stars, American Defense Medal, European Theater Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He took part in North Africa, Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, and Po Valley. He received his discharge on June 19.

Decorated in Italy

Sgt. Bruns was recently awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in support of combat operations in Italy.

As a driver and Company motor mechanic in the 133 Inf. Regt. 34th "Red Bull" Division, Bruns cheerfully undertook hazardous driving missions and worked tirelessly to perform them to the best of his ability. He was responsible for the maintenance of 21 vehicles and frequently was required to work on vehicles while lying in mud and water and hampered by the lack of proper facilities.
