Mrs. K. Ashing received word from Kansas City Thursday that her son Edward was very sick. The message did not state what the sickness was. Mrs. Ashing left for Kansas City the same evening.

Death of Edward Ashing

Another Wellsburg Boy Victim of Influenza

Edward Ashing of Wellsburg died at the Mechanics School at Kansas City. He registered September 12, but had not been drafted yet. He was going to school so that when he was drafted he could get into the Mechanics Department. Not long ago, his mother was called there when she got word that he was ill with the Spanish Influenza. He was improving and getting along fine when he suddenly became worse and died October 20th. His body was shipped to Wellsburg. He leaves Mrs. S. Ashing, two brothers, Henry and Albert, and a sister, Mrs. Heinie Luwe of Wellsburg. He worked in the Wellsburg meat market before he left, and played on the baseball team of Wellsburg when they were in the height of their glory. Everyone knew and liked "Eddie" as he was called by the baseball fans.

Eddie Ashing died at Kansas City, Sunday morning. Eddie was attending the Sweeney Training School. He was taken sick with pneumonia about 3 weeks ago and was some what improved. No particulars as to the date of the funeral. The remains will arrive from Kansas City Tuesday afternoon.
