| Chapter 165 of the Acts of the 20th General Assembly, made it the duty of | ||||||
| each assessor in the State, to report the names of all ex soldiers, sailors and | ||||||
| marines, living in his township or town at the time of making the assessment | ||||||
| which was the latter part of January, February and March 1885. | ||||||
| Owing to the fact that the assessors were burdened with an unusual | ||||||
| amount of labor in taking the Agricultural and Mechanical census, in addi- | ||||||
| tion to the ordinary assessment, it is thought that the lists returned are very | ||||||
| imperfect, and the Ajt. General of the State has returned these lists to the | ||||||
| County Auditors for correction, as it is very desirable to have them as full | ||||||
| and accurate as possible. | ||||||
| Every person who sees this list is requested to examine it carefully and if | ||||||
| they discover errors of any kind, omission of soldier's names, or find the name | ||||||
| of any person who was not a soldier on this list, they are requested to report | ||||||
| the same, together with the proper corrections to be made to the County Aud- | ||||||
| itor of Grundy County. | ||||||
| The above list is not in the best form for publication, but is in the form | ||||||
| required by the Ajt. General, and as the corrections are wanted immediately, | ||||||
| there has not been time to arrange the names alphabetically, or to give them | ||||||
| by townships as otherwise should have been done. |
