Mailing Lists

Message from Rootsweb-Ancestry, regarding their new mail list system March 6, 2018

If you would like to connect with other Clinton County researchers join the Cedar County e-mail mailing list sponsored by Rootsweb-Ancestry.com. Sending a message to a single e-mail address sends a message to all those who have subscribed.

To subscribe to the Cedar County mail list send a message to iaclinto-subscribe@rootsweb.com . In the subject line and in the body of the message please type in the word subscribe. Make sure any signature or taglines are turned off. In return you will receive an E-mail welcoming you to the list and explaining it's use.

To unsubscribe to the Mail List, send an E-mail to iaclinto-unsubscribe@rootsweb.com . In the subject line and in the body of the message type in the word unsubsribe. Please turn off your signature before sending the message.

There are many, many more lists you can join --

Mailing lists can be so helpful in answering questions and helping you find information.  There are lists for almost every surname imaginable, every location in the world and for every genealogy subject you can think of from very general, such as beginning genealogy, to very specific, such as the descendants of only a specific person.  There is even one for those who believe their ancestors came from another planet!

Other Iowa Lists

Check out the Archives -- ASAP!

The best part is the fact that most of these lists are archived.  That means you can search through messages since the list began, before you joined (or even had a computer) and see if anyone was looking for you before you were looking for them!  Not only can you search for surnames, you can search for cemeteries, cities, etc.

And of course, RootsWeb has mailing lists, but so do many other sites.  Cyndis List has a list and be sure to check out John Fuller's page.  There are also sites like OneList where you can set up your own mailing list or join one of the many there.  Family Tree Maker and the LDS Family Search sites also have mailing lists.

There are also chat room discussions you should check out.  Some are in conjunction with mailing lists.

I hope you will take advantage of these great resources.
