Heckard Heads Old Soldiers
Wheatland Man is Named Colonel of County Association
Col. J. H. Heckard of Wheatland was elected colonel of the Clinton County
Soldiers' and Sailors' association at its closing session here today, and
Wheatland was chosen as the 1914 meeting place. Other officers named were:
Lieutenant colonel -- I. W. Harmon of Grand Mound
Major -- Warren Walrod of DeWitt.
The offices of adjutant and quartermaster will be appointed by the colonel. Commander Baldwin of Gen. Baker post reminded the veterans at the close of the business session that a program for the entertainment of old soldiers will be given at Mount Pleasant park Saturday afternoon.
The Business Session.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Rumble. Adjutant George Drake read the minutes of the meeting of last year which was held at Lost Nation. Mr. Drake also read the list of those who have died since that meeting as follows:

Resolutions Adopted.
The committee adopted the following resolutions:
Resolved, That we tender to the citizens and comrades of the city of Clinton our
heartfelt thanks for their courtesies and generous action insecuring for our
comfort and pleasures, for the freedom of the city, for the kind action of the
Commercial club who made it possible for the very enjoyable automobile tour of
the city and suburbs. To the officers of the city for their kind interest and
action. Especially do we wih to mention the fire department andtheir intrepid
chief, Thomas Price, and we also wish to thank all those who were instrumental
inmaking the camp fire in the Davis opera house one of the finest we have ever
been fortunate to be present at.
