Lewis High School Graduates

Note: The list below is incomplete, and an ongoing project. It will gradually be compiled as time and research permits.

"In 1859 the first school, a one-room brick building, was constructed one block west and two blocks south of the courthouse. ... In 1882 two years of high school were being taught. Three teachers and one principal were employed. ... In 1894 the first 4-year graduation class with six members organized the Lewis High School Alumni Association. ... In 1916 Lewis Consolidated School District organized . . . In 1917 the new school building was completed for all grades and high school. All country pupils in the new district were brought in by horse-drawn hacks."On May 8, 1960 the school building was destroyed by fire. A new building for primary through upper elementary was built, and the high school students went to Griswold, Atlantic or Walnut."
