The Atlantic High School graduating class of 1941 held its 40th reunion Aug. 8 at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club, attended by 78 persons, including 48 class members.
Ted Becker was honorary chairman. Other local members participating were Betty Jensen, John Lang, Dorothy Craney, Mildred Auerbach, Bernice Baier, Glenn Olsen, Ted Pellett and Lois Petersen, along with Marjorie McDermott of Walnut.
Dr. James Bailey, class president, was master of ceremonies. Thomas Miller Lorah, vice president, furnished the centerpiece for the speaker's table. John Lang, secretary-treasurer, read the roll call, and interesting items of their lives were told by the attending classmates.
Letters were read from out-of-town members unable to attend, including Ellen Jane Anderson Dye of Ann Arbor, Mich., Mary Alice Becker Ives of Richfield, Minn., Wayne Coker of Germany, Lola Lange Green of Hersey, Neb., Robert and Lois V. Petersen Mallette of Sacramento, Calif., Thomas Miller Lorah of San Francisco, Calif., Donnis Saemisch Lehmann of Redlands, Calif., Marilyn Simpson Ford of Atlanta, Ga., Ralph Snyder of Wichita, Kan., Madge Studley Miller of Flower Mound, Texas, Berdele Sothman Petersen of Kansas City, Mo., and Mildred Wright Barger of Phoenix, Ariz.
Visiting followed the dinner and program. A Sunday morning brunch was held at the Ted Becker home, with 57 members and spouses attending.
"Come Back and Enjoy Your Old Hometown!" was the theme, and Atlantic was promoted throughout the reunion.
Prizes were awarded to the following persons: Rose Dimig Doane, most plants; Elsiebel Long Kasch, grayest hair; Merritt Bailey Jr., baldest head; Gene Hayes, most grandchildren; and Gale Ullerich, traveling farthest distance.
