This year of 1976 is the Bicentennial Year of the nation. Many community efforts have been planned, and the town has been designated as a Bicentennial Commuinty [
sic Community] and proudly flies its flag. Elsewhere in this history is listed the businesses in Lewis at the turn of the century. We still have several business ventures, much different, to be sure, and scattered all over town, many in residences.

But what of Lewis as a place to live? What of the hundreds of small towns just like it, losing most of the young people to the cities, but still managing to maintain a community where living is pleasant. The town has roots. Almost everyone here today is descended from pioneers to this area. In this time when we read so much of the tensions and status-seeking, and the mobile existence of Suburbia, we are a people with roots in the past. We came and we stayed, and our people are a stable people. We know we are not going anywhere industrially or socially. So we enjoy life as we find it right here in Lewis.
It is good to live here.
