NORWAY CENTER CEMETERY
in Franklin Township, Section 21

Red Rose Border

The Norway Cemetery is located in the center of the south side of section 21. It is located on N28 going south from just east of Wiota towards Cumberland, 3 1/2 miles South and 1/2 mile East Of Wiota, west on Lansing road. The land was deeded to the cemetery by L. S. Olson and wife and some on the east side by Helga Vestad. This occurred on March 7, 1883. Shortly later a strip was given on the west side by Elvin Ostrus. There is just over an acre in the plot. The cemetery is a result of neighbors deciding to merge two small cemeteries into one. The place is managed by the trustee in charge for the township and maintained by a perpetual care fund. Anna Larson Myrene was the first burial in 1880. The oldest person buried here is Oliver Ostrus at age 102.

The cemetery was recorded in April, 1986, by Delbert and Edna Christensen as a project of the Cass County Genealogical Society.

The cemetery was walked again in October, 2012, by Carolyn DeLay and Mary Hoegh for the Cass County Genealogical Society. All available gravestones were photographed for preservation.
