Myrna Joyce Benton Hamm
17 March 1928 ----- 4 September 1983

Myrna Joyce Hamm, daughter of Earl Evan and Nellie Pauline Paulsen Benton, was born in Dows on March 17, 1928. She grew up in the Dows area and graduated from the Dows High School. After graduating, she was employed at the Scotts Store in Eagle Grove and later worked in Webster City. On Dec. 5, 1951, she was united in marriage with Elmer Edward Hamm in the Methodist Chapel in Eagle Grove. The family lived at Renwick until 1964. Mr. Hamm died on Oct. 5, 1964. After his death, Myrna lived in Eagle Grove, Kansas City, Fort Dodge and for the past 10 years, she had lived in Des Moines and was employed as a Dietician at the Valley View Nursing Center.

She had been in ill health for the past several months and died at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines early Sunday morning, Sept. 4, 1983 at the age of 55 years, 5 months and 17 days.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda, Mrs. Billy Bass of Des Moines; Charlene, Mrs. Gary LaRue of Hampton; two sons, Charles Hamm of Alexander and Terry Hamm of Hampton; her mother, Mrs. Nellie Benton of Eagle Grove; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Louise, Mrs. Leo Russell of Eagle Grove; Linda Morgan of Eagle Grove; a brother, Evan Benton of Eagle Grove and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and her father, and a twin brother, Myron.

Funeral services for Mrs. Myrna Hamm, 55, of Des Moines and formerly of the Eagle Grove-Renwick area, were held on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Scott C. Hall officiated and burial was in the Corwith Cemetery. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Tuesday.
