"Jane" Margaret Merriam, 89, of Fort Dodge, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy, officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Corwith, Iowa, North of Renwick. A visitation will begin 9:00 a.m. Friday until the time of service at the church. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Marie) of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Susan Merriam of Fort Dodge; Nancy (Bob) Kuebler of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Katie; Jacklyn (Joshua) Johnson; Callie; Jessica; great-granddaughter, Alisyn Jane Johnson; brother, Larry (Pat) Lewis of Chariton; cousins; nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; parents, Hugh and Ruth Lewis; sister, Betty Noland; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
Margaret Jane Lewis was born June 29, 1926 to Ruth and Hugh Lewis in Millerton, IA. She later moved to Des Moines to work at Farm Bureau Insurance. Jane was united in marriage to Donald R. Merriam in 1951 in Des Moines and became the parents of three children: Dennis, Susan, and Nancy. She moved with her family to Jamestown, N.Y. area and made many friends. In 1974, Jane and her family moved to Renwick, IA, where she and Don opened the D&T Lounge in 1976. Jane loved spending time with her granddaughters. She also had a passion for gardening, cooking, canning vegetables, embroidering, quilting, and being a grandma. She was a former member of St. Mary's, Corwith, and then Sacred Heart Church in Fort Dodge. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
