Des Moines -- Juanita A. Schmidt, 78, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Des Moines with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines.

Juanita was born April 11, 1936 in Holmes, IA to Elmer and Alice (Ferguson) Odland and raised in Woolstock, IA. She was united in marriage in 1954 to Robert Schmidt. Juanita retired after 35 years of service with Northwestern Bell, U.S. West, and Qwest. She was a member of Koinonia at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Des Moines and the Women's Auxiliary at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Juanita also volunteered at Mercy Hospital for many years. She was a caring, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and Christian.

Juanita is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bob; two sons, Rick (Kim) and Mike (Erin); grandchildren, Daryan Schmidt, Gage, Evan and Drew Schmidt; brother, Delmar Odland; nieces and nephews, Bob, Don, Bill, Mary and Dean; and the Odland families. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Yvonne and Elaine; and brother, Richard. Memorial contributions may be directed to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Des Moines.
