June 7, 1905 --- December 11, 2002

CORWITH, IA - Katherine Mortimer was born June 7, 1905, in Osceola, Mo., the daughter of William and Floretta Belle (Cays) Schnetzer. She grew up in Osceola where she later was graduated from high school. After her schooling she taught in a country school for one year before she was married. On Feb. 21, 1926, Katherine was united in marriage to Charles Mortimer in Waverly, Kan. After their wedding, the couple farmed in Waverly before moving to Corwith in 1931. In Corwith they ran a livestock trucking business. They made their home in Corwith until 1972, when they then moved to Fort Dodge. Katherine enjoyed being with her family, playing cards and crocheting. She had been an active member of the First Baptist Church in Corwith.

In 1994, Katherine entered the Kanawha Community Nursing Home, where she died on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at the age of 97.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna (and Leonard) Leerar of Britt, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; daughters, Flora Lee Green, Margaret Stacy and Eva Mae Mortimer; and a son, Merlin Mortimer.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, with the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. Casket bearers were Charles Stacy, Dwight Leerar, Diane Wumkes, Katherine Williams, Danny Leerar, Charla Green, Sheri Crouse and Todd Green. Interment was in Corwith Cemetery at Corwith. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Corwith was in charge of arrangements.
