LUVERNE, IA - Funeral services for Marie Caroline (Nielson) Jackson, 86, of LuVerne are 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002) at the United Methodist Church in LuVerne, with the Rev. Dale Reisner officiating. Burial is in the LuVerne Cemetery. Casketbearers are Brian Hunt, Scott Hunt, Ted Koch, Aaron Hunt, Andrew Hunt and Lucas Gunderson. Honorary casketbearers are Terri Koch, Deb Hunt, Jolene Hunt, Amber Hunt, Sabrina Hunt and Heather Hunt.

Marie Caroline Nielson was born Oct. 1, 1916, to Aksel and Christians Christoferson Nielson in Nebraska. The family later moved from there to Canada before eventually settling in the Corwith/LuVerne, Iowa, area. She attended country school and in 1932 married Howard Hunt. To this union was born her only child, Edwin (Sonny). Marie cared for many mothers and their new babies in the Corwith/ Kanawha communities during the Depression years. She worked as a nurse's aide in Mercy Hospital at Mason City and was a cook in the Kanawha Community Home. On Dec. 31, 1956, Marie married Edward Jackson and moved into LuVerne. In her earlier years, Marie was a member of Presbyterian Church, later joining the Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the LuVerne Memorial Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and the LuVerne Senior Citizens.

Marie became a resident of the Kanawha Community Home in 1999, and then moved to the Algona Manor in August 2002. She died Monday, Dec. 2, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. She was 86. She is survived by her son, Edwin, and his wife, Joann, of LuVerne; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She also is survived by three step-grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; five brothers, Hans, Andy, Clarence, Harold and Albert; her sister Margaret; and another sister who died in infancy. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in LuVerne was in charge of arrangements.
