June 27, 1929 --- September 13, 2002

CORWITH - Dale E. Johnson, 73, died Friday, September 13 (2002), in Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa at Mason City. Funeral service for him was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the United Methodsit Church at Corwith with the Rev. Dan Fernandez officiaitng. Burial was in the Corwith Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Elmer Wilson Post 229 of the American Legion at Corwith. Casket bearers were Dana Arndorfer, Scott Anderson, Jim Ludwig, Eric Arndorfer, Allen Ludwig and Zac Ludwig. Honorary bearers included Earl Chambers, Norman Chambers, Jim Mullins, Bill Ludwig, Thurman Gaskill and Bob Arndorfer.

Dale Edward, son of Albert and Ruby Penterman Johnson, was born near Corwith on June 27, 1929. He graduated from Corwith High School, then went into the U. S. Army and was stationed in Alaska. After returning from the military, Dale farmed with his father on the home farm west of Corwith.

He was married to Laura Jean Barr in the United Methodist Church at Corwith on January 8, 1957. The couple continued to farm and Dale ran a milk route from the Wesley Creamery for many years. He then worked on road construction for an Emmetsburg company, trucked for Ben Cardell of Spencer, LuVerne Wessel at Belmond and the Ennis Trucking Co. at Clarion. Dale retired in 2000.

He was a member of the Corwith United Methodist Church where he had taught Sundy School. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau, a 4-H leader and in his younger years, was a member of the Rural Youth group. Dale liked to bowl, sew, ride motorcycles and play cards.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Jean and three daughters, Helen Johnson, Corwith; Kathy and Dwayne Black, Fort Dodge and Naomi and Ray Breakenridge, Birmingham, AL. He has one granddaughter. Also surviving are four brothers, Duane and Shirley Johnson, Torrance, CA; Marvin Johnson, Gowrie; Terry and Joyce Johnson, Milpitas, CA; Raymond and Karen Johnson, Hephzibah, GA. Three infant sons and his parents preceded him in death.
