Emil Kirchgatter, living six miles west, has been troubled for several months with appendicitis. Wednesday Drs. Cole, Couper, of Britt and Phelps of this place, performed an operation, which was successfully done. They found the patient also seriously afflicted with tuberculosis, which may finally ---prove fatal.

Died October 10, 1899, at his home near Corwith, of appendicitis, Amil [sic. Emil] Kirchgatter, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Kirchgatter. He was born at Mitchell County, Iowa, September 20, 1874, therefore was 25 years and 20 days old when he died. He had always been a stout, rugged young man until stricken with a severe pain about July 29, 1899, and from that time he suffered constantly. There were two surgical operations performed upon him yet medical skill was unable to save him.
