BELMOND - Tena F. Sandry, 95, most recently a resident of the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond, formerly a longtime resident of rural Goodell, died Monday (May 24, 2010) at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Public visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First St. S.E., Belmond. A private funeral service will then take place on Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Paddy Druhl, of the Goodell United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Tena's name may wish to consider Hospice of Wright County, or to their own choice.

Tena Florence Gruis, the daughter of Klaas and Maggie (Harms) Gruis, was born May 21, 1915, on her parents' farm in rural Meservey. Tena attended rural schools in the Meservey area before taking on responsibilities of helping out with the many tasks of the family farming operations. Tena was united in marriage to William B. Sandry on May 31, 1932. The couple's union was blessed with three sons, Donald, Calvin and Marvin, and one daughter, Sharon. Following their marriage the couple farmed and raised their children in the rural Goodell area. In addition to being a full time homemaker, wife, and mother, Tena had worked for a time at Acco Seeds sorting corn and had done some detasseling. Her life on the farm was busy as she helped out with the Dairy operations, raising the hogs, chickens, and crops, along with numerous other duties as a partner in the farming vocation. Tena was an excellent cook and baker. Her children remember fondly her wonderful and delicious homemade rhubarb and sour cream and raisin pies, along with her savory carrot cake and kringla. Tena enjoyed get-togethers with her many lady friends, an occasional outing with her husband and the kids to one of the area county fairs, was an avid bingo player, enjoyed reading nearly anything she could get her hands on and looked forward to the challenges of a good crossword puzzle. After becoming a resident of the Rehabilitation Center, she enjoyed various activities there including playing Jokereno and bingo, along with time spent visiting with family and friends.

Tena's memory will live on the lives of her surviving children and their families, including her sons, Donald Sandry, of Goodell, Calvin (Lorene) Sandry, and their children, William (Deb) Sandry, of Blue Grass, Iowa, Dale (Karen) Sandry, of Orange City, Fla., and Debbie (Rick) Rette, of Lakeville, Minn.; and Marvin Sandry, of Britt, and his son, Michael Sandry, of Thornton; her daughter, Sharon Sandry, of Belmond; also Tena's great-grandchildren, Aaron, Becca, Amy, Lee, Chris, Eric, Rachael, Jacob, and Angelica; and her great-great-grandchildren, Jordan and Carly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Margaret, Minnie, Karry, and Anna; and her brothers, Ernest, Jake, and Harm. Andrews Funeral Home.
