ROCKWELL, IA -- Clara Vierkant, 92, of 807 Washington, died Thursday evening (Jan. 19, 1996) at the Sheffield Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Fullerton Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert Dodge of the United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Amsterdam Cemetery, Goodell. Clara was born Oct. 8, 1903, in Keokuk, a daughter of Andrew and Malinda Stiedley. After her parents' deaths she was raised by the Henry Miender [Meinders]family in Belmond, where she attended school. She was united in marriage to Harm Vierkant on Sept. 2, 1921, in Hancock County. They farmed in the Rockwell area for 35 years. Her special love was gardening with flowers and vegetables. She also crocheted many many items. Clara moved to the Sheffield Care Center in April 1994. Clara is survived by her three children, Mrs. Daniel (Bennett) Sharp of Rockford, Harm Vierkant of Sheffield and Andy and his wife, Alice Vierkant, of Winlock, Wash.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1978; and nine brothers and sisters.
