MESERVEY, IA --William "Bill" Fischer, 63, of 811 First St., died Tuesday (Sept. 12, 1995) at his home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Salem United Methodist Church, Meservey, with the Rev. Jim Gochenouer officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery with military rites by the Wm. Schmalle Post #171. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home, Meservey.

William H. Fischer was born on March 13, 1932, in Cannonsburg, Pa., the son of Herman Fischer and Elizabeth {McCullough) Fischer. At the age of 4, he moved with his family to Meservey and graduated from Meservey High School with the class of 1950. Following school, he entered the United States Navy and served his country in San Jose, Calif., and Japan. Upon returning home, after his discharge, he was united in marriage to Maxine Bunk on Dec. 21, 1955, at the Wright County Christian Reformed Church near Kanawha. They made their home in Meservey and he worked with his father at the Fischer Implement Company. In 1973, he began working for the Brakke Implement Company of Mason City and experienced one year of employment with Followill Implement Company of Belmond in his many years as a sales representative. Bill enjoyed playing golf and cards with his friends, listening to music and attending concerts. He was an active member of the Salem United Methodist Church of Meservey, the Meservey City Council, Meservey Volunteer Fire Department, and the Wm. Schmalle American Legion Post #171.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, of Meservey; one daughter, Debra Fischer of Creston; two sons, Michael Fischer and his wife, Diane, of Maple Grove, Minn., and Timothy Fischer of Minneapolis, Minn.; one grandson, Geoffrey Fischer of Maple Grove, Minn.; one sister, Anne Sell and her husband, Bruce of Ida Grove; and one brother, Robert "Chip" Fischer and his wife, Delores, of Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents.
