Phyllis Marie Oxley, 67, of Kanawha, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Muse Norris Hospice Impatient Unit in Mason City. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 13, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Corwith with Pastor Caroline En gelbrecht officiating. Music was provided by Helen Burrington, organist; Sharon Gourley, accompanist to the congregational singing. Casket bearers were Paul Tebben, Bud Kraft, David Johnson, Russel Tebben, Don May, and Mervin Krauss. Interment was at Amsterdam Cemetery near Kanawha.

Phyllis Marie Vestweber was born July 17, 1933, in Belmond. the second child of William and Frances (Baker) Vestweber. She graduated from Alexander High School in 1950, and Hamilton Business College in Mason City. On July 26, 1952, Phyllis married Carel Oxley at St. John's Lutheran Church in Belmond. They moved to rural Kanawha and were engaged in farming. The mother of five, Phyllis was a homemaker and an active member of her church and community for nearly 50 years. She was preceded in death by her father, William Vestweber. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Carel; her daughters, Sue and Eric Paige of Charlotte, NC, Nancy and Jeff Bauer of Belmond, and their children, Sarah and Rachel Schiltz of Rochester, MN, and Matt Bauer of Iowa City, Betty and Lenny Zeman and their daughters, Katherine, Janet and Laura of Cedar Falls; and by her sons, Jeffrey Oxley and a special friend, Ann Young of Plant City, FL, and Timothy and Rhonda Oxley and their daughters, Miranda and Tesla of Fort Meyers, FL; her mother, Frances Vestweber of Belmond; sister, Joye Ostendorf of Meservey; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Marianna Vestweber of McAllen, TX.
