HOT SPRINGS, ARK -- Tillie Behrens Roland, 94, died Saturday (April 6, 1996) at Quapaw Nursing Home, Hot Springs, Ark. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garner, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery, Garner. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

Matilda "Tillie" Marie Theresa Rolands, the daughter of Julius and Otellia Teresa Amelia (Callies) Rockow, was born Sept. 14, 1901 on a farm near Williams. She attended the rural schools of Hamilton County. In Sept. 1918, she was married to John Myron Behrens at Williams. They farmed in Hamilton and Wright counties for several years. They then moved to Garner where her husband worked for Ed C. Buntenbach and the Garner Shipping Association for approximately 35 years. Tillie was a homemaker, famous for her pies! She made many a pie that was sold on sale day at the Garner Livestock Sales Barn. After her husband's death in 1975, Tillie moved to Prairie View Apartments the following year. On Sept. 30, 1980, she was married to Thomas Gerhart Rolands at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. They continued to live at Prairie View Apartments. After Tom's death on July 16, 1992, Tillie moved to Hot Springs to be near her daughter. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, L.W.M.L. and the Prairie View Bible Study Class. At the time of her death, Tillie was the oldest living member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her four children, Verla Weber and her husband, Earl, of Dows; Myron Behrens, Jr. of Denver, Colo.; Glendola Lukas of Hot Springs, Ark.; and LaVerne Behrens and his wife, Delores, of Sebring, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Agnes Rockow, of Barren, Wis.,; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Behrens; her second husband, Thomas Rolands; a son-in-law, Robert Lukas, Sr.; her parents; two sisters, Clara Inman and Martha Buntenbach; and seven brothers, Herman Rockow, Will Rockow, Ed Rockow, Eric Rockow, Paul Rockow, Frank Rockow and John Rockow.
