GARNER - William L. Langlitz, 54, of Garner, died Tuesday (Feb. 22, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa after a courageous 14-year battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Nazarene Church in Britt with the Rev. Mitchell Sanderson officiating. Interment will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner, with graveside military rites conducted by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St. in Garner, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

William Leonard Langlitz, the son of Ira William and Wava Opal (Wilson) Langlitz, was born Oct. 1, 1945, at Belmond. He attended school at Goodell through the eighth grade and then graduated from Belmond High School in 1963. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967, being stationed in Germany. Bill worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation before he entered the service and after his discharge until 1972.

On Aug. 1, 1970, he married Sherry J. Lewerke at the Nazarene Church in Britt. They made their home in Garner where he worked for Hancock County Co-op Oil. He was transferred to the Hancock County Co-op Oil branch office in Belmond, where they lived for six years. In 1984, they moved back to Garner. Bill worked for Food Services of America until health problems forced his retirement. He enjoyed his family, his granddaughter, friends, classic cars and music. He was a member of the Nazarene Church and served on the Belmond Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Langlitz of Garner; a son, Tom Langlitz of Kansas City, Kan.; a daughter, Nancy Langlitz and her daughter, Ashley, of Garner; his parents, Ira and Wava Langlitz of Goodell; two brothers, Larry Langlitz and his wife, Gail, of Goodell, and Kenneth Langlitz of Goodell; an uncle, Forrest Langlitz of Klemme; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Trager, on Jan. 18, 1999. Cataldo Funeral Home
