BELMOND - Amy Alma Just, 75, of Belmond, passed away Monday (Feb. 21, 2000) at her residence in Belmond surrounded by her family. Funeral services for Amy A. Just will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond, with Father David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery near Belmond. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with a parish rosary at 2:30 p.m. and a scriptural wake at 7 p.m. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
Amy, the daughter of Henry and Florence (Gerdis) Meyers, was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Titonka. She grew up and attended school in the Titonka and Hayfield areas. Amy was united in marriage with John Just on Sept. 18, 1949, in Belmond. The couple made their home in Belmond where they raised seven children. Amy was a full-time wife and mother who always had a big garden and did a lot of canning. She loved to collect knick-knacks and rarely missed an auction or garage sale. Amy loved to watch football and basketball and was a big Hawkeye fan. Amy was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.
Amy is survived by her husband, John; one son, Garland Just and his wife, Roxie, of Webster City; six daughters, Judy Smith and her husband, Jim, of Belmond, Fran Banta and her husband, Lou, of Belmond, Bobbi McVey and her husband, Brian, of Belmond, Mary Schaefer and her fiancee, Tom Bradley, of Iowa Falls, Donna Beachy and her special friend, Bill Martin, of Wellman, and Lori Meints and her husband, Darin, of Goodell; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six sisters and three brothers, Gert Pruisman of Belmond, Geraldine Steenblock of Homer, Alaska, Henry Meyers and his wife, Arlene, of Holmen, Wis., Ida Mae Boyd and her husband, Orville, of Jewell, Anthony Meyers and his wife, Marg, of Bothell, Wash., Shirley Kvale and her husband, Robert, of Lake Mills, Thelma Pals of Clear Lake, Ardis Quandt and her husband, Gordon, of Mesa, Wash., and Alan Meyers and his wife, Catherine, of Seattle, Wash.; and several cousins, in-laws and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; two brothers, Harm Meyers and Andrew Meyers; two sisters, Ruth Steenblock and Helen Meyer; three grandchildren, David Smith, Karen Just, Roslyn Schaefer; and one great-granddaughter, Shelby Jo Smith.
