Ira William Langlitz, 90, died on Friday, July 26, 2002. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 30, at the United Methodist Church in Goodell, with Pastor Paddy Druhl officiating. Organist was Shirley Kuhlers and soloist was Nancy Barkema. Interment was in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell. Honorary bearers were Leroy and Josephine Carolus, Joe and Aline Burgess, John and Mavis Peterson and Larry and Evelyn Boller. Active bearers were Leonard Gobeli, Donald Gobeli, Daryl Gobeli, John Lacey, Dolvin Miland, Leon Langlitz, Tom Langlitz and Russell VerHelst.

Ira William Langlitz, was born on January 21, 1912 at Goodell, the son of Frederick William and Anna (Rust) Langlitz. He attended the Goodell School and graduated in 1930. He married Wava Wilson in 1933. Ira owned and operated a filling station in Goodell for several years and he also served as the town mayor during this time. He and his family later moved to a farm northwest of Goodell, where he farmed until his retirement in 1976 when he and his wife moved into the town of Goodell. For 25 years the couple enjoyed wintering in the south. He enjoyed playing cards, woodworking and working crossword puzzles. In earlier years he had been active with the Cub Scouts program and served as a Sunday School Teacher at the Goodell Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wava in October 2001; a daughter, Eileen in 1999; a son, Bill in 2000; a brother, Elmer and a brother, Forrest in May 2002; a son-in-law; and an infant grandson. Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Gail Langlitz and a son, Kenneth Langlitz, all of Goodell; a daughter-in-law, Sherry Langlitz of Garner; grandchildren and their spouses, Leon and Denise Langlitz of Lenexa, Kansas, Kimberly and Clayton Palmquist of West Chester, Iowa, Rebecca and Jan Tvedt of Britt, Stacey Trager of Britt, Tom Langlitz of Lenexa, Kansas and Nancy Langlitz of Garner; five great-grandchildren, Michael Trager, Alex Palmquist, Ashley Langlitz, and Taylor and Tannyn Tvedt.
