Grace P. Zaspel, 84, of Goodell, died on Friday, July 25, 2003, at her home. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 28, at 1:30 p.m., at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond, with Pastor Janet Wearda officiating. Burial was in the Amsterdam Cemetery near Goodell.

Grace Prudence, was born on April 3, 1919 in Goodell, to Charles and Kathlyn (Pannhoff) Mikesh. She attended country schools in the Klemme, Goodell, and Forest City areas. She graduated from high school in Portland, Oregon at the age of 44.
Grace married Willard Zaspel on March 23, 1940 in St. Paul. They lived in St. Paul, Burlington and then Portland, Oregon. When Willard was in the service, Grace moved to California. There she worked as a drill press operator building B-29 and B-26 bombers. She also worked for the USO. It was there she met Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and other stars. Grace moved back to Goodell, Iowa in 1971, where she worked for Abe and Minn Hietland. She was a member of the American Red Cross.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband. She is survived by sisters, Colina Haan of Miller, Gladys (Pete) Pals of Belmond, Ruby Dwyer of Harpers Ferry and Constance Roley of Annandale, Minnesota; and brothers, George (Emily) Mikesh and Charles (Wanda) Mikesh of Belmond.
