Sharon K. Kennedy, 64, of Belmond, died on Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at the Belmond Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m., at the Belmond United Methodist Church, with Pastor JoAn Skyrme officiating. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Sharon Kay, the daughter of Millard (Pete) and Edith (Nelson) Evans, was born in Algona on August 16, 1938. She was baptized and confirmed at the Kanawha Lutheran Church. She attended school in Kanawha where she sang in the choir, played basketball and was the first Kanawha Labor Day Queen. Sharon married John (Jack) Williams, Sr. The couple lived for a time in Texas and were blessed with five children. On May 8, 1972, Sharon married David Kennedy, and they made their home in Belmond. Sharon sold Electrolux Vacuum Cleaners for many years, but devoted most of her time to raising her family. In her spare time she enjoyed going to garage sales. She was an active member in the Belmond United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Sharon loved the children and they were very important to her. She helped start the Belmond Chapter of the Alcoholics Anonymous and celebrated 23 years of sobriety. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband, David of Belmond; children, Jack (Robin) Williams, Jr. of Belmond, Kristie Buseman of Belmond, Randy (Diane) Williams of Mason City, Rachelle (Terry) Buseman of Belmond and James (Angie) Williams of Rowan; step-children, Sandy (Ramon) Licon of Roswell, New Mexico, Linda (Lynn) Loux of Belmond, Jim (Jane) Kennedy of Kansas City, Missouri, April (Randy) Kemmer of Northbrook, Illinois and Terri (Jim) Corsello of Mason City; eighteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; mother, Edith Evans of Belmond; sisters, Delores (Roger) Birdsall of Sheffield, Donna (Dean) Legg of Houma, Louisiana and Deanna (Bob) MacNamara of Meservey; and brother, Jim (RaeAnn) Evans of Lansing, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society and children's programs at the Belmond United Methodist Church.
