Merla May (Campbell) Williams
January 23, 1885 --- April 27, 1924

Merla May Campbell was born in Goldfield, Iowa, January 23rd, 1885 and died at her home here April 27th, 1924 aged thirty-nine years, three months and four days. She attended the country school and later High School, graduating from here with the class of 1901. During her high school career, the family moved from the country to their home in town. She attended both the Methodist and the church of Christ. She was baptised and became a member of the church of Christ at the age of eighteen years and has since remained loyal to that church.

After completing her high school course, she studied for a year at Ellsworth College at Iowa Falls. She taught music in and about Goldfield. She was united in marriage to Albert Williams in 1908. A short time later they moved to Bode where they, remained for a few years. They moved from place to place with Mr. Williams work, but finally located in Goldfield again where she lived until her death.

In the spring of 1923, she began ailing but believing it not to be serious little attention was paid to it. In the early part of the fall last year, she was placed under the doctor’s care and since that time all medical aid possible was given her. She received radium and X-Ray treatments at Rochester. As it had been found that she was suffering from a cancer and massive tumor.

She returned from Rochester the latter part of December and has been bedfast nearly all the time. Friday afternoon she became unconscious and did not again become conscious before her death.

Mrs. Williams lived for her family and will be greatly missed by them. She enjoyed seeing the children have a good time and always had way of amusement provided for them. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and five children, Genevieve, James, Vandatta, Alberta and Merla May, also her mother. Her father and three children have preceded her in death.
