Lorenz William Rieck, Jr.
March 28, 1937 --- January 13, 1997

Lorenz W. Rieck, Jr., was born March 28, 1937, at West Branch [Westgate], Iowa to Lorenz Rieck, Sr. and Edna McIntosh. He attended school at Luther Community School. He was an owner-operator truckdriver for Umthun Trucking Company in Eagle Grove for 13 years and Westside in Cedar Rapids for 1 year. He had been in the National Guard. He married Joan Fulkerson on March 2, 1957, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Madrid. He was a farmhand until 1963, and he was a construction foreman in Webster City for 16 years. He was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Madrid.

Lorenz W. Rieck, Jr., of Dows, died Monday, January 13, 1997, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa, at the age of 59.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; three daughters, Laura MacRunnel, Albion, Cindy Johnson, Alden, and Robin Greenfield, Williams; two sons, David, Alden, and Rick, Dows; his parents, Madrid; five sisters, Verdeen Knox, Newton, Linda Ward, Newton, Nancy Houseman, Boone, Barb Anderson, Gilman, and Jana Ranieri, Madrid; two brothers, Roger, Spirit Lake, and Mike, Madrid; and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy MacRunnel.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 16, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Memorial United Church of Christ in Alden, Iowa, with Reverend Bob Miller officiating. Burial was in Alden Cemetery, Alden. Surls Funeral Home of Alden, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
