Verna Edith (Klaas) Kist
July 16, 1896 --- August 26, 1993

Verna Edith Klass [Klaas] was born July 16, 1896 at Marathon, the daughter of George and Alma France Klass [Klaas]. She graduated from Peterson High School in 1913.

She was married at the age of 19 to John Joseph Kist of Eagle Grove on February 20, 1917 at Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove. The couple lived their entire married lives in Eagle Grove. They owned and operated the Bostonia, the town's ice cream parlor and candy store. Mr. Kist preceded his wife in death on March 23, 1971.

Mrs. Kist moved to the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove eight and one-half years ago. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Eagle Grove.

Verna Edith Kist died at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove Thursday morning, August 26, 1993, at the age of 97 years, one month and seven days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lincoln; grandson, Michael; brothers, Fred, Harry, Art and George; sisters, Grace, Laura and Marge; her daughter-in-law, Bernadine; and her step-daughter, Cheryl's, husband. She is survived by her sons, John Kist and his wife, Ruth of Downers Grove, Ill., Robert Kist of Clayton, Mo., Dr. Richard Kist and his wife, Phyllis of Clinton; step-daughter, Cheryl Dore of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; brother, Roy Klass [Klaas] of Troy, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 28. The Rev. Wayne Droessler officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
