Robert Leon Schumann was born February 13, 1955, the son of Harold and Mavis Coleman Schumann at Fort Dodge. He received his education in the Eagle Grove school system. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Joseph Smith.

Following his education, he began trucking for Umthun Trucking Company in Eagle Grove and later with his step-father's company, Smith Trucking. He continued driving for his step-father throughout his step-father's illness and until Mr. Smith's death in 1990.

He married Laurie Fawcett of Fort Dodge. From this union one daughter was born. He moved to Marathon and was employed with Triple "R" Trucking Company. While in Marathon he met and later married Tracy Chapman. He has been employed for the City of Marathon for the last two years. He was a member of the V.F.W.

Robert Leon Schumann died Friday, August 20, 1993 at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake following an injury received at a friend's home in Marathon. He was 38 years, six months and seven days of age.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, and an infant son, Brandon Leon. He is survived by his son, Robert Jr. of Marathon; daughter, Sunshine Fawcett of Fort Dodge; step-daughter, Carrie Larson of Des Moines; mother, Mavis Smith of Eagle Grove; grandmother, Alice Williams of Rockwell City; brother, Michael Smith of Eagle Grove; and two sisters, Mrs. Steve (Wanda) Woodbeck of Eagle Grove; and Mrs. Bruce (Roxanne) Richard of Dakota City.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 25 at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Thomas Evans officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove. Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
