Roger Dean Thompson
22 July 1955 --- 28 February 1997

Roger Dean Thompson was born July 22, 1955, to Raymond and Blanche Koltvet Thompson in Clarion Iowa. He was educated in the Clarion schools, graduating from Clarion High School in 1973. He was baptized and confirmed in the Holmes Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was an active member teaching Sunday School and participating in Luther League. After high school, he farmed with his father in the Clarion area for thirteen years. He later attended the Lutheran Free Association Bible School in Minneapolis, Minn. He was united in marriage to Sonia Nash on September 22, 1981, at Bethaney Free Church near Abercrombie, N. D. They were later divorced. There, he enrolled in the Business Program at North Dakota State College of Business. He graduated in 1988 with a Business degree. He purchased the True Value Hardware Store in Wahpeton where he continued to operate the business. He was united in marriage to Kay Martens on August 20, 1996, at the Valley Christian Assembly Church in Breckenridge, Minn. The couple made their home in Wahpeton where he was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church. He was also active in the community, serving on the Elevator Board and Farm Bureau. He also worked with youth in 4-H and softball.

Roger Dean Thompson died at Wahpeton, N. D., February 28, 1997, at the age of 41.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Thompson; two daughters, Erin Rochelle Thompson and Brittany Ray Thompson; one son, Anthony Jon (A. J.) Thompson; three step-children, Kristofor Martens, Michael Martens, and Katrina Martens, all of Wahpeton, N. D.; his parents, Raymond and Blanche Thompson, Clarion, Iowa; one brother, Michael Thompson; and one sister, Melanie Hill, all of Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ardith Neale Thompson; four sisters, Bernita Rae, Sharon Kae, Theone Fae, and Galene Blanche; his maternal grandparents, Nels and Bertha Koltvet; his paternal grandparents, Andrew and Bertha Thompson.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 4, 1997, at 10 a.m. at the Valley Christian Assembly, Breckenridge, Minn., with the Pastor Michael Cieniawski officiating. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, 1997, at 10:30 a.m., at the Holmes Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Carlton Shaw officiating. Burial will be in Holmes Lutheran Cemetery, Holmes, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening (tonight) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Willim Funeral Home in Clarion.

Joseph Vertin and Sons Funeral Home, Breckenridge, Minn., was in charge of arrangements in Minnesota. Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, is in charge of arrangements in Iowa.
