Porter Donly, was born at LaPorte, Ind., November 27, 1871, and died at Cherokee, Iowa, March 24,
1920, at the age of 48 years. When a young boy he came with his parents to Webster City, where they lived for some time and then removed to River Bend Fawn, near Woolstock. He attended Webster City high school, the Algona Normal College and graduated from the Cedar Rapids Business College. He came to Eagle Grove at the age of 18 and took a position with the Northwestern in the storehouse. He studied law in the office of J. W. McGrath, and was admitted to the bar in 1897. He practiced law in Eagle Grove until 1908 when he went to Brownsville, Texas, where he was Claim Agent for the St. Louis Brownsville, and Mexico Railroad. He became interested in Y. M. C. A. work and acted as employment secretary of the Y.M.C.A. at Houston, Tex., the climate did not agree with him and he returned to Eagle Grove in 1912, and soon after took a position as office Sec'y. of the Y.M.C.A. at St. Paul, Minn.His health had been failing for some time and while here he lost his mind and was taken to Cherokee for treatment where he died last Wednesday. He was a member of the Methodist church, the Modern Woodman and the Masonic Lodge.
In 1898 he married Miss Amy Scott and to them three children were born, Hugh, who is employed as railier for the C. & N. W . and Clarice and Mary, who are attending college at Cedar Falls. He was buried on Friday, March 26th, at La Porte, Ind., beside his mother, funeral services being conducted at that place by the Rev. M. Stewart. Besides his wife and children he leaves one brother, Henry to mourn his loss.
