ALTA MARIAM SLAIKEU
Alta Mariam Duerst was born November 1, 1909 to Florence Reichter and Henry Duerst. The family was living on a farm in Humboldt County, Iowa. She attended country school for eight years, then
Goldfield High School, and Iowa State University in Ames after graduating from high school. She was united in marriage to Donald D. Slaikeu on January 1, 1930 in Goldfield. The couple farmed in the Evergreen area near Goldfield before retiring and moving to Goldfield. The couple moved to the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove where they were residents until Donald Slaikeu's death on June 28, 1994.

Mrs. Slaikeu was a longtime member of the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield and the church
circle, the Evergreen Association, DOC, and the neighborhood card club.

Alta Mariam Slaikeu died on August 2, 1994. She had attained the age of 84 years, 9 months, and 1 day.

She is survived by her four sons, Perry and wife Gladys of Humboldt; Duane and wife Doris of La Porte City; Roger of Union City, Calif.; James and wife Jeanette of Mora, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and one sister, Ethel Glick of Warrensburg, Mo. Alta Slaikeu was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and her parents, Henry and Florence Duerst.

Funeral services for Alta Mariam Slaikeu were held on Friday, August 5, 1994 at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with Reverend Nadim Saikaly officiating the 11 a.m. service, and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. The Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
