Gladys Marian Beisell was born April 17, 1903, in Liberty Township, Wright County, Iowa, the daughter of Abijah Beach and Ida Mae Dean Beisell.

She attended the Thrall Country School and graduated from Goldfield High School in 1921. She attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls and taught rural school in Norway Township No. 7 and No. 9 Lake Township Schools.

Gladys was united in marriage to Joseph Gangstead of Goldfield, Iowa on August 22, 1923 near Thor, Iowa in Humboldt County. They farmed in Boone Township, Wright County, and in Lake Township before his death in 1965. Gladys made her home on the family farm.

She died at the Clarion Community Hospital, Clarion, on Saturday evening, November 16, 1991 after a long illness. She had entered the hospital on the Thursday morning preceding her death. At the time of her passing she had attained the age of 88 years, six months, and 29 days.

Gladys is survived by two sons -James Gangstead of Dakota City, Iowa, and Norman Gangstead of Goldfield, Iowa; two daughters -Marilyn (Mrs. Carl) Hokel of Huxley, Iowa and Arlene (Mrs. Gene) Northrop of Stanhope, Iowa; a sister -Maria Pardun of Mason City, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Lake Lutheran Church, life member of the American Legion Auxiliary, White Shrine, and an active member of the Farm Bureau, as well as a 4-H leader for many years.

Funeral services for Gladys Marian Gangstead were held on November 19, 1991, at the Lake Lutheran Church in Goldfield, Iowa. The Reverend Palmer Wold officiated at the 2 p.m. services and burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield, Iowa. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge.
