Margie C. Miles-Halvorsen passed away Dec. 8 in Visalia, Calif, where she was living with her daughter, Marlene and son-in-law, Brian Frohmuth. She was born Sept. 7, 1912 in Goldfield, Iowa, the youngest daughter of Charles and Ina Cleveland.

She was a graduate of Northwestern College in Minneapolis Minn, where she earned a degree in Theology. She lived there for 8 years before moving to Columbia, Mo. in 1940. She lived in Columbia for 52 years, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Her late husband, James Scott Miles preceded her in death in 1967.

She lived in Beloit, Kan. from 1992 to 1997 to be near her son & his family. In 1997, she moved to Lenexa, Kan. and in 1999, she moved to Visalia, Calif.

In December 1999, she became reacquainted with a childhood friend from Goldfield, Iowa, Dr. Arlin M. Halvorsen of Salem, Ore. The following year on April 15, 2000, Arlin and Margie were married in Salem where they made their home.

Survivors include her husband, Arlin M. Halvorsen of Salem; two sons, Gene Miles of Mt. Angel and Doug Miles and wife, Kay of Lenexa, Kan.; daughter, Marlene Frohmuth and husband, Brian of Visalia, Calif.; two step-daughters, Marlene Rhodes and husband, Frank of Salem and Kathi Couture and husband Jim, of Wheaton, Ill.; four grandchildren, Wendy Miles of Olympia, Wash., Andrew Miles of Portland, Ryan and Shawn Miles of Lenexa, Kan.; step-grandchildren, Sherry Miles, Sally Thompson, Linda Douglas and Jay Miles of Atlanta, Ga. and Wendy Arnold of Ft. Valley, Ga.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.,

She was preceded in death by former husband, James S. Miles, her brothers, Ralph and Sid Cleveland, her sister Ruth Lyons and her stepson, James T. Miles.

Memorial services will be Sat., Dec. 13, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home in Des Moines, Iowa. Interment will be 1 p.m. in Goldfield, Iowa at Glenwood Cemetery, immediately followed by fellowship and lunch at the Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, Iowa.
