Merrill Everett Hanson, Sr.
9 December 1932 --- 1 June 2005

Merrill E. Hanson, Sr., 72, of Eagle Grove, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 6, 2005, at 2 p.m. at the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield with Deacon Doug Maxson officiating.

Merrill Everett Hanson, Sr., was born December 9, 1932, in Thor, Iowa, the son on Martin and Mabel (Larson) Hanson. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, attending country school in Thor. He was confirmed in the old Evangelical Lutheran church on Wright St., in Eagle Grove. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School. In 1952 he entered the United States Army and was discharged in 1954. In 1959 he re-enlisted in the United States Navy. On July 2, 1955 he married Wilma Adams at Fort Dodge. They lived in California, Florida, and in 1968, returned to Eagle Grove. On August 2, 1986, he married Arlene LaRue Yenck and they made their home in Eagle Grove.

He was employed by Electrolux Home Products of Webster City since 1974. He also delivered the Des Moines Register in Eagle Grove for 13 years. He was a member of the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar at the Otho Community Center.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene Hanson, of Eagle Grove; children: Merrill E. Hanson Jr., of Algona; Murray "Dean" Hanson, of Eagle Grove, Linda S. Hanson, of Eagle Grove; and Mark A. Hanson, of Humboldt; step-children, Jim Yenck. and his wife, Dee, of Des Moines; Mark Yenck, of Humboldt; Susan Smith and her husband, Mark, of Apple Valley, Minn.; Kelly Dodge and her husband. Bill, of Webster City; 14 grandchildren, and a brother, Arlen Hanson, and his wife, Mary, of Goldfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Wilma; a daughter, Marilyn, in 1957, brothers Richard and Lynn Hanson, and a granddaughter.

The Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of the arrangements.
