Arthur Kelling, a life-long resident of Goldfield community, dating back to the pioneer period, slipped away from human, activities and relationships last week.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. T. S. Bassett, pastor of the Goldfield Methodist Church, on Sunday afternoon, at 2:30, at the church. Burial was made in Glenwood Cemetery, in Goldfield.

Arthur Kelling was one of thirteen children of George and Jane Beaver Kelling, early settlers in Wright County. George Kelling came here from Ottumwa, Iowa, about 1854, and pre-empted original prairie land northeast of where Goldfield is now located. The Beaver family came into this region about 1864.

Art, as he was familiarly known, by everybody hereabouts, was born in the farm home northeast of Goldfield, on January 4, 1875. His early life was filled with usual experiences, privations, and hard work of the pioneer beginnings of this region. As he grew to manhood, he followed farming as his life-work, and prospered therein, coming to own his farm and develop it into a good and valuable homestead.

In 1915, he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Elizabeth Hinton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hinton, who were also pioneers in this vicinity. The new home was established on the farm, where they remained for about six years, after which they moved into Goldfield, and have had residence here continuously for the past 21 years. Mr. Kelling bought property in the west part of town and built their very nice cottage home. He never engaged in town business but was always looking after and improving his farm properties. For a number of years, he made a hobby of fancy chickens and won a large assortment of blue ribbons, of which he was justly proud.

About a year ago, Art began failing in health, but was reasonably active during the fall and winter. Since spring he has been more poorly, confined to his home most of the time; until Wednesday evening, July 29, 1942, when, at 11 o'clock, he passed away. During his long illness he was faithfully cared for by his devoted wife.

Art is survived by his wife, four brothers, three sisters, nephews, nieces and other relatives. His living brothers are Henry, Albert, George, and Walter Kelling; his surviving sisters are Miss Ella Kelling, Mrs. Eliza Alldredge and Mrs. Maude Knight. Six nephews served as pall-bearers.

Mr. Kelling was blessed with a genial, neighborly temperament, by which he won a large circle of friends. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and advanced in this to the high degree of Knights Templar. He was a member of the Methodist Church and during his sickness, he greatly enjoyed the frequent periods of worship, led by his pastor in the home. He died in the peace of Christ.

A well-respected citizen has gone from our midst.

Those from out-of-town who attended the funeral are as follows: Mrs. Walter Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Trask, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Lou Miller, Mrs. Lou Kelling, Charles Kelling, Mr. and Mrs: James Kelling, Mr. Schipull, Mrs. Geo.
