Martin O. Johnson, 76, died about noon Monday, July 9th at his home on North Commercial Ave. Mr. Johnson, a former operator of a photographic studio here, has been in failing health for several years.

He is survived by his wife, two brothers, Lars of Thor, Mandus of Cedar Rapids, and two sisters, Miss Selma Johnson and Mrs. Dan Lothe of Thor.

Martin Olaus Johnson, son of Nels Maakstad Johnson and Margrethe Froines Ullensvang Johnson was born June 23, 1875 at Thor, la. He was baptized and confirmed in the Ullensvang Synod Church of Thor, Iowa. He attended public school near his home and the Bode Academy of Bode, lowa. Later he attended the Luther Academy at Albert Lea, Minn., and also the Effington School of Photography at Effingham, Illinois. His first studio was at Lehigh, Iowa. He also had studios at Jordan and Kenyon, Minn., and Mondovi, Wis., and Dear Lodge, Mont., and for fifteen years at Eagle Grove. He retired from studio work on May 1, 1948.

After the death of his parents, he made his home with his brother, Lars Johnson and family in the old homestead, until his marriage on July 6, 1945. He was married to Clara Larson, daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Anders Larson, pastor of the Ullensvang Lutheran Synod Church of Thor from 1904 to 1908. They were married at Madison, Wis. by the Rev. Eerling Ylvisaker of Holy Cross Synod Church, and later they moved into their home at 220 North Commercial Avenue at Eagle Grove.

On June 23, 1951 he celebrated his 76th birthday with friends and relatives at his home.

His death occurred on July 9, 1951 having reached the age of 76 years and 16 days. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rev. John Johnson of St. Paul, Minn. He is survived by his wife, Clara, and two brothers, Mandius Johnson of Cedar Rapids and Lars A. Johnson of Thor. Also, two sisters, Margaret, now Mrs. Daniel Lothe and Selma Johnson of Thor, Two nieces and five nephews and 16 great nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Martin Johnson and relatives wish to express their sincere thanks to their many friends for all their kindness shown them during Mr. Johnson's illness and death.

Funeral services were held Thursday, July 12 at the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, with Rev. G. E. Mensing officiating. Interment was held on the family lot in Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor, Iowa.
