Ethel Marie Swanger Jergenson
6 October 1900 --- 27 March 1985

Ethel Marie Jergenson, the daughter of Milo and Minnie Frakes Swanger, was born on October 6, 1900, on a farm in Dayton Township in Wright County, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and attended the rural school in her neighborhood. On December 16, 1920, she was united in marriage with Chris Jergenson in the Christian Church at Clarion, Iowa. To this union were born three children, Phyllis, Cleo, and Wesley Jim. The family lived in Dayton Township for a year, then moved to a farm near Eagle Grove and then to a farm northeast of Eagle Grove, where Chris and Ethel lived until they moved to their present home in 1960. She was a member of the Esther Circle of the United Methodist Women, a member of the Know Your Neighbor Club since 1922 and was also a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She died early Wednesday morning, March 27, 1985, at the Clarion Care Center, where she had been a resident for the past few days. She attained the age of 84 years, 5 months, and 21 days.

She is survived by her husband, Chris Jergenson of Eagle Grove; two daughters, Phyllis, Mrs. Harry Hayes of Manitowish Waters, Wis.; Cleo, Mrs. Eugene Bradley of Hobbs, N.M.; a son, Wesley Jim Jergenson and his wife, Bette Jergenson of rural Eagle Grove; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy, Mrs. George Menge of Rangely, Colo.; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Carroll Swanger.

Funeral services for Mrs. Chris (Ethel) Jergenson, 84 of Eagle Grove, were held on Friday, March 29, 1985, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Scott C. Hall officiated, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Thursday.
