Bernice G. Nelson died Sunday, December 15, 2002, at the North Care Center in Humboldt, Iowa, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son-in-law, Gerry Lawson, daughter-in-law, Dian Nelson; brothers, Omer and Palmer Thompson; and brother-in-law, Keith Smith. Survivors include her five children, Beverly Lester and husband, Leo, Goldfield, Iowa, Bernard Nelson, and wife, Anne, Renwick, Iowa, Shirley Gudenschwager, and husband, Ernie, Orchard, Neb., Earl Nelson, Renwick, and Dianne Lawson, Williams, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; one sister, Bernette Smith, Goldfield; two brothers, LeRoy Thompson, Hardy, Iowa, and Earl Thompson, Fairmont, Minn.; and sisters-in-law, Marge Thompson, Carlisle, Iowa, and Wilma Thompson, Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Bernice Gwendolyn Thompson was born on October 2, 1914, at Eagle Grove, the daughter of Lars and
Blanche Biondahl Thompson. She married Gerald N. Nelson on November 21, 1936, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Renwick area all of their married lives. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Renwick.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 19, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in
Renwick, with Reverend Karen Dearchs officiating. Burial was held in Elmwood Cemetery in Rural
Renwick. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Renwick was in charge of arrangements.
