GLADYS J. THOMPSON
Gladys Julia Gates was born November 5, 1921, the daughter of Fred D. and Vera L. Freeman Gates, in Clarion, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Clarion and graduated from the Clarion High School in 1939. While growing up, she was active in 4-H. On June 12, 1953, she was united in marriage to LeRoy M. Thompson at the United Methodist Church in Clarion. She worked at the Clerk of Court's Office and the Auditor's Office in Wright County until 1958, when she became a homemaker for her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarion and the Isabella Thoburn Circle at the church.

Gladys J. Thompson died Monday, December 6, 1999, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 78. She is survived by her husband, LeRoy, Clarion; one daughter, Janet Zimmerdahl, and husband, Mark, Portland, Ore.; one son, David Thompson, Clarion; one granddaughter, Kendra Zimmerdahl, Portland, Ore.; and one brother, Charles Gates of Clarion. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Maurice; a sister, Louise Kelling; and a brother, Freeman Gates.

Funeral services were held Thursday, December 9, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Clarion with the Reverend Charles Kellogg officiating. Burial was held in the Evergreen Cemetery at Clarion. Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of arrangements.
