Mrs. John Montgomery died Sunday afternoon following a stroke at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harold Pride in Ames. She was preceded in death by her husband ten years ago. The Montgomerys formerly lived in the house now occupied by Dr. and Mrs. F. H. Kelly and family. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Montgomery had lived at the homes of her two daughters, Mrs. Bert Cunningham of Storm Lake and Mrs. Harold Pride of Ames.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Wilson Funeral Home in Eagle Grove and burial was at the Glenwood cemetery, Goldfield.

Obituary

Mary Frances (Minnie) Wright was born at Cambridge, Mass, Sept. 12, 1861, daughter of Andrew and Mary Montgomery Wright who had but recently come to this country from Ireland. She was the fifth child in a family of eight.

At an early age she emigrated with the family to Jones county, Iowa. In 1872 the family moved to Wright county and bought the land on which the city of Eagle Grove is now located. Here she was educated in a country school and later at the Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls.

After teaching in the rural schools of Wright county and serving as township librarian, she was married October 22, 1884 to John Marshall Montgomery and moved to the Montgomery homestead 5 miles north of Goldfield. To this union four children were born. One son died in infancy and one daughter at the age of eight years. Vera, now Mrs. A. H. Cunningham of Storm Lake, and Mary, now Mrs. Harold Pride of Ames, survive, along with five grandchildren, Grace, John and Marian Cunningham and Richard and Mary Frances Pride, and one sister, Mrs. Annie W. Thorup of Eagle Grove.

In 1907 the Montgomery's moved from their farm to Goldfield where they resided until the death of Mr. Montgomery ten years ago on July 1, 1930. Since that time Mrs. Montgomery has made her home with her two daughters until her death at Ames last Sunday afternoon at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 18 days. She was a member of the United Presbyterian church at Goldfield. –Goldfield Section

Mrs. John Montgomery, one of the early pioneers died Sunday at Ames at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harold Price. Since the death of her husband 10 years ago, Mrs. Montgomery has lived at the homes of her two daughters, Mrs. Bert Cunningham of Storm Lake and Mrs. Harold Price of Ames.

The Montgomery homestead 5 miles north of Goldfield was the first settled in this valley. John Montgomery will be remembered as formerly being Mayor of Goldfield, Banker and President of the Farmers Elevator Company.

Mrs. Montgomery passed away late Sunday afternoon at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 18 days. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Wilson funeral home at Eagle Grove and interment was made in the Glenwood cemetery.
