Herbert Hodge, 88, a former resident of Eagle Grove, died at Fargo, N. Dak., Monday. Mrs. Hodge died about a month ago and was buried here. He is survived by three sons, Thomas P. of Fargo, Charles E. of Los Angeles, recently returned from the Pacific area where he was with the Army, and Melville H. Hodge of Rock Island, Ill.

Funeral services will be held in Fargo and interment will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove, Saturday afternoon following the arrival of the 3:09 p.m. Chicago Great Western train. Grave services will be given by Rev. Clarence W. Tompkins.

HERBERT HODGE, 88, SUCCUMBS IN FARGO
Herbert Hodge, 88, Fargo, N. D., father of Mel H. Hodge, 2421 Twenty-second avenue, Rock Island, superintendent of the city playground and recreation commission, died yesterday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock in Fargo, following an illness of four weeks. Mr. Hodge left last night for Fargo, where funeral services will be held Thursday. Burial will be at Eagle Grove, Iowa, Friday.

Herbert Hodge was born March 17, 1856, in Saugene, Ont., Canada. He attended Toronto schools and came to Iowa in 1876, where he married Florence A. Harrison in 1880. In 1901 the couple moved to Fargo, where Mr. Hodge was engaged in the real estate business and served as a member of the national panel of real estate arbitrators. He was a founder and president of the Fargo Garden society.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas P. of Fargo, Charles F. of Los Angeles, Calif. and Mel H., and two grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife, who died a month ago, a daughter and two sisters.
