Lena Sophia (Watne) Fischer
May 4, 1895 --- March 29, 1985

Mrs. Fred (Lena) Fischer, 68, longtime Webster City resident, died Friday morning at the Hamilton County hospital where she had been a patient for eight days. She had been in failing health for several years.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Raymond M. Roden and Rev. David R. LaMaster officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Foster Funeral home after 4 p.m. Saturday and until 10 a.m. Monday, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Lena Sophia Watne, daughter of Thor and Kjersten Hetlund Watne, was born May 4, 1896 at Eagle Grove and was educated there, being graduated from Eagle Grove high school. She taught in the rural schools of the Eagle Grove area. On June 20, 1918, she was united in marriage to E. Fred Fischer at Eagle Grove, and the couple resided there for a short time, moving later to Webster City where Mr. Fischer operated the Fischer Meat Market until his retirement in 1950.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1967, and continued to reside here. She had been a resident of Crestview Manor since August, 1977. She is survived by one son and one daughter, Ernest F. Fischer and Mrs. Robert (Ruth) McCollough, both of Webster City; four grandchildren, Linda E. Fischer of Fort Madison, David E. Fischer, Waterloo; Kirk McCollough, Webster City and Jennifer McCollough of Minneapolis. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran church.
