Hans Watne
20 March 1890 --- 23 October 1978

Hans Watne, son of Thor and Kirsten Hetland Watne, was born March 20, 1890, at Stavanger, Norway. The family moved to South Dakota and then to Eagle Grove when Hans was very young. He attended school at Eagle Grove. On August 20, 1924, Hans was united in marriage with Izetta Marie Gallagher of Elmore, Minn. They were married at Titonka in Kossuth County and made their home in Eagle Grove, where Hans was an engineer for Chicago-Northwestern Railroad. He retired at the age of 65. Hans died Monday, October 23, 1978, at the Hampton Nursing Home, Hampton, Iowa at the age of 88.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, two sisters and his wife, Izetta. Survivors include two daughters: Wanda (Mrs, Willard) Glade of Dows and Jacquelin (Mrs. Robert) Ryan of Eagle Grove; one sister, Lena Fischer of Webster City; six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Hans was a member of the Brotherhood of Local Firemen and Engineers, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 25, 1978, 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Marvin Berkeland officiated and burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
