29 July 1910 --- 12 February 1964

Orville Joseph Hill, 53, died at the scene of a two-car crash near Britt Wednesday, Feb. 12. Funeral services were held at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenneth Torvik, former pastor, now of Strawberry Point, in charge, Monday at 2:00, with interment at Rose Hill cemetery.

Orville was born July 29, 1910 at Gorham, N.D. to Earl J. and Carrie Johnson Hill. He moved to Eagle Grove when he was eight years old and has resided here since. He was an engineer on the Chicago and North Western Railroad and belonged to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen. Active in Boy Scouts, both as ass't. Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster, he was advisor for the Explorer Scout post and an officer in the IOOF Lodge. On May 24, 1941 he married Cleo Damon of Eagle Grove. He had been a member of Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1921.

He is survived by a son, Clinton, serving with the U.S. Navy; 3 brothers: Clifford of Goldfield; Gaylord and Melbourne of Eagle Grove; and 4 sisters: Mrs. Orville Nelson of Britt, Mrs. Harriet Johnson of Ft. Dodge, Mrs. Georgia Paine, and Mrs. Lawrence Nerem of Renwick.
