HAROLD ULSTAD
Harold (Smokey) Ulstad was born on July 14, 1916, to Oscar and Julia Burven Ulstad in Holmes, Iowa. He received his education in Holmes and Clarion and graduated from the Clarion High School. After high school he entered the Army and served his country during WW II. After the war, he returned to the area of his birth and farmed for a short while. He was best known as the manager of the Holmes COOP Lumberyard where he worked for many years until he retired at age 62.

For the past 18 years, he has lived at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Harold (Smokey) Ulstad died on Tuesday, February 17, 1998, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown at the age of 81.

Survivors include one sister, Agnes Amosson of Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norris, and two sisters, Alga and Ruby.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 20, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Holmes Lutheran Church with Reverend Carlton Shaw officiating. Burial was in the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery. Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, was in charge of arrangements.

HOLMES — Harold "Smokey" Ulstad, 81, of Holmes, died Tuesday (Feb. 17, 1998) at the Iowa Veterans Home, Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holmes Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Carlton Shaw officiating. Burial will be in the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery, near Holmes. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion. Harold Ulstad was born July 14, 1916, in Holmes. Survivors include one sister, Agnes Amosson, Clear Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
