SERENA BORGE
Brita Serena Viken Augestad was born on July 20, 1895, to Nils and Nilsina Viken Augestad at Omastrand, Hardanger, Norway. She was baptized and confirmed at the Strandebarm Church. At the age of 18 she came to the United States and lived in the home of her sister, Kristi Skiye, near Goldfield. She worked at numerous domestic jobs in that area.

She was united in marriage to Olaf Lonning on December 16, 1916, near Goldfield. They farmed on various farms near Eagle Grove, Renwick, Goldfield, and Thor. Olaf Lonning died on July 12, 1958, at Thor. She sold the farm located near Thor and moved to Eagle Grove. In 1965, she married Sigurd Borge of Hartland, Minn. He died in 1970. In 1995, at the age of 100, she became a resident at the Clarion Health Care Center. She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

Serena Borge died Sunday, February 12, 1998, at the Clarion Health Care Center in Clarion at the age of 102. Survivors include three daughters, Clara Bosworth of Eagle Grove, Norma Whitney of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Thelma Norem of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and four step-children. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one son; three sisters; two brothers; and two sons-in-law.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 19, 1998, at 2 pm at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Reverend Franz Schemmel officiating. Burial was in Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Renwick. Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
