Hans Thompson, 83, a pioneer resident of the Goldfield community, passed away at his home here, last Saturday, May 22, following a short illness. He had been in usual health until a few days before his death, making frequent trips up town and looking after the home tasks.

Funeral services were held at the Goldfield Presbyterian church, on Tuesday afternoon, May 25 with the Rev. J. Lester Williams, pastor of the First Baptist church conducting the services, assisted by the Rev. J. C. Harris of the Church of Christ. Miss Jeanette McCleary and Mrs. Barbara Moseley, accompanied by Miss Betty Keith, sang appropriate hymns at the service. Pall bearers included A. A. Blewett, Ray Cunningham, Ray Griffith, Henry C. Pinkham, J. E. Richardson and John S. Whyte. Interment was made in the family lot in the Glenwood cemetery at Goldfield.

Hans Thompson was born December 29, 1859, in Falster, Denmark and passed away at his home in this city, May 22, 1943, at the age of 83 years, five months and 23 days. While still a young lad in the old country, he was baptised in the Lutheran church and at the age of fourteen years he was confirmed in that faith.

In the year of 1881, he emigrated to America, coming to Hampton, in Franklin county, Iowa, where he established a home. Two years later, on August 26, 1883, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Hanson, of Hampton, and to this union were born six children, Minnie, Axel, Hannah, Sena, Elmer and Ed, all of whom reside in Iowa, with the exception of Axel, who passed away on February 9, 1919, while with the army of occupation in Germany, and Minnie, who passed away on October 15, 1937.

After living in Hampton for seven years, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson removed to Wright county, settling on a farm northeast of Goldfield, and here they made their home for many years. Upon retiring from active farm work, Mr. and Mrs. Thompson purchased a home in the town of Goldfield, and here Mrs. Thompson passed away on February 25, 1919.

On May 1, 1915, Mr. Thompson became affiliated with the Goldfield United Presbyterian church, and has been a faithful member of that sect since that time.

On September 4, 1924, he was joined in marriage to Betsy Oleson, of Goldfield, and has continued to live in Goldfield until the time of his passing.

Besides the members of the immediate family, Mr. Thompson leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and four step-children: Ole Oleson of Radcliffe, Mrs. Bertha Vroman, Lawrence Oleson and Mrs. Anna Bergeson, all of Goldfield; twenty grandchildren and a great host of friends and neighbors.

Lester Verne Oleson of Camp Crowder, Mo., Gayhart Larson, A/S., U. S. N., P. S., Camp Scott, Farragut, Idaho, Mr. and Mrs. Orres Knutson, Mrs. Kate Prescott, Mrs. Andrew Skrovig, Ole B. Oleson, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Lunning and Mrs. Harold Lindebak of Radcliffe, Mrs. Albert Radohl of Buckeye, John Hill of Story City, Mr. and Mrs. Annis Vroman and children of Alden, Mr. and Mrs. John Kiley and children of Corwith, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Nelson, of Denhart, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stupka of Clarion and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nelson of Manning.

Hans Thompson, 83, pioneer resident of this community died at his home here Saturday. Mr. Thompson has been in poor health for several months.

Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian Church on Tuesday afternoon. In the absence of Rev. John Haupt, the Rev. Lester Williams of the Baptist Chruch conducted the service assisted by Rev. J. C. Harris. Burial was in the Glenwood cemetery.

Goldfield – Funeral services for Hans Thompson, 83, pioneer Wright county resident, were held at the United Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. H. M. McCracken of Crawfordsville, former pastor, in charge. Burial was made in the family lot at Glenwood cemetery.

Mr. Thompson was born Dec. 29, 1859, in Falster, Denmark, and died at his home in Goldfield Tuesday after a short illness. In the year of 1881, he emigrated to the United States and settled at Hampton. Several years later he came to Wright county where he settled on a farm northeast of Goldfield.

He was married to Miss Anna Hanson on Aug. 26, 1883, and to this union six children were born, four of whom survive. Mrs. Hannah Rasmussen, Elmer and Ed Thompson, of Goldfield. and Mrs. Sena Pinder of Des Moines. Two children preceded their father in death, Axel, who died Feb. 9, 1919, while with the army of occupation in Germany, and Mrs. Minnie Rasmussen, who died on Oct. 15, 1937. His wife preceded him in death Feb. 25, 1919.

On Sept. 4, 1924, he was married to Betsy Oleson of Goldfield, who survives. Twenty grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.
