Duane Charles Ingebritson was born November 12, 1935, in rural Franklin County, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Irene Jass Ingebritson. He attended school in Franklin County graduating from Popejoy High School, in 1953. He then farmed with his father for several years before joining the United States Army. He spent two years in the Army and was later Honorably Discharged. After returning to Dows, Iowa, he farmed in Franklin County for several years. On April 27, 1968, he was united in marriage to Linda Akers at First Presbyterian Church in Dows. They lived and farmed in Franklin County and in 1971 they moved to their present home west of Dows and continued farming.

He was later employed by the Dows Post Office as a substitute rural letter carrier and in 1987 began working as a full time rural letter carrier in Perry, Iowa. He later began working for the Blairsburg postal system and on September 3, 1999, he retired from the Eagle Grove Post Office. On June 27, 1996, he was awarded the "I Satisfy customers" award, September 1, 1999, he received an official commendation and recognition for his contributions to the United States Postal Service, and on September 11, 1999, he received a service award for 20 years of service with the Postal Service.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Dows where he acted as Trustee and Usher, a member of the American Angus Association, and National Rural Letter Carriers Association.

Duane Charles Ingebritson died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa, at the age of 64. He is survived by two children, John Ingebritson, Dows, and Jill Allen, and husband, Steve, Ogden, Iowa; one brother, Marlyn Ingebritson, and wife, Marilyn, Dows; and one sister, Alice Milford, and husband, Grant, Webster City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda, in 1989; one sister, Carole; and one infant son, Anthony.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 4, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Dows with the Reverend Paul Thompson officiating. Burial was held in Fairview Cemetery in Dows. Flag folding ceremonies were conducted by Post #523 of the Dows American Legion. Elledge Funeral Home in Dows was in charge of arrangements.
